The Peaceful Revolution

Tuesday, November 7th and Wednesday, November 8th will live in History. On Tuesday, Americans went to the polls and voted the Republicans (who've controlled Congress for the last 12 years) O U T! The Dems regained control of the House. The Dems have regained control of the Senate. Donald Rumsfeld *ahem* resigned as Secretary of War.
Nancy Pelosi will become the first female Speaker of the House. Bush's news conference announcing Rumsfeld's firing was hysterical.

We the People. How wonderful that rings today.

That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

As we get ready to travel abroad, in countries where Islam is the way of life, I feel safer, bathed in the light of the proof that we the people do not support this fascist regime.

There were, as we all expected, dirty tricks, vote suppression, electronic voting machine election fraud. This election cycle will be remembered for the robo-calls. RNC offices were programming robo calls to harrass, threaten, and mislead voters.

Lots of Stuff Happening

Next Sunday, Nov 11th, we leave for vacation. WooHoo!! One week in Morocco and one week in Spain. I'm hunting for electrical adapters today so I can take my iPod wall charger and a unit for rechargeable batteries.

We're leaving in the shadow of the upcoming midterm elections, which take place Tuesday, Nov 7th. Dems look poised to retake the House (subpoena power!) and possibly the Senate. Charles Taylor is too close to call with Heath Shuler. I'm volunteering at MoveOn.org here in Asheville tonight.

Luke is out of school as Yancey closed all schools till Weds, Nov 8th due to a flu epidemic.

Last Saturday, I ran in the Bursnville Town Scamper 5K. I finished in 32:44. Today, I ran 5K on the Fitness Center's treadmill in 27:30 (no hills). I'm keeping a running log on my Protopage Site.
